Hampton Roads in American History – Hampton Roads, is an area located in Virgina, United States. Hampton Roads is a place that has its own history for the United States. At that time, American history was heading for peace from a civil war that occurred around the 1800s. Precisely in 1865, Abraham Lincoln, the American president made history by having a conference held at Hampton Roads which is now known as the Hampton Roads conference. At Hampton Roads, history records that Lincoln at that time met with officials from the Confederacy in order to discuss the peace agreement. And, the meeting lasted only a few hours and the result was Lincoln refusing to give a concession delegation.

Historically, at that time around 1864 and 1865 in the winter, the condition of the confederate army was worsened due to conditions in January, Union forces succeeded in occupying the fortress fisher and also damaged Wilmington relations where this position was the last port owned by the Confederate army. In the end, Jefferseon Davis who became president of the Confederate forces established communication with representatives of the Union army to meet with Abraham Lincoln and aimed to discuss peace.

Then, finally on February 3, 1865, Lincoln and William H Seward as foreign ministers met with officials of the Confederate forces which included Vice-president Alexander H Stephens. They are negotiating to end the political practice that occurred in America. The conference was held on a steamboat at the Dean of Hampton Virginia. At that time, Lincoln asked for the slavery system to end and Lincoln gave demands on the Confederacy such as the cessation of slavery, disarming the Confederate army and also Reunification between the Union and the Confederacy.

The conditions of the Confederate forces at that time provided conditions that could no longer be evaded to meet Lincoln’s demands.
