Regional Spotlight: Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation (MAST) Center The MAST Center is a cooperative effort between Suffolk and Portsmouth in promotion of the modeling and simulation industry in Hampton Roads.  The MAST Center at Hampton Roads Crossing, is a 32-acre research, technology and education campus located at the intersection of Western Freeway (164) and College Drive.  The MAST Center will be located one mile from the U.S. Joint Forces Command Joint Warfighting Center. Approximately, 16 acres (50%) in the City of Suffolk and approximately16 acres (50%) in the City of Portsmouth.  The campus master plan contemplates a development of up to nine (9) parcels with a projected density of approximately 420,000 square feet of office and technology oriented space.  Phase One of the MAST Center is anticipated to equal approximately $31,200,000 in capital investment.  The total capital investment projected for the purposed campus is approximately $80,000,000 in office development, which would be shared in roughly equal portions by the City of Suffolk and City of Portsmouth, and $20,000,000 in possible hotel and conferencing facilities. The direct and indirect job creation from The MAST Center is significant.  Early estimates anticipate approximately 520 jobs to be located in Phase One of the MAST Center.  The speculative Research Office Building, upon full occupancy, will house an estimated 210 jobs in private sector companies with a desire to be located in close proximity to VMASC.  The employment related to the ODU Tri-Cities Center is estimated at 105 full and part-time positions and the growth in the VMASC component will yield an additional 50 full and part-time employees.  The residual build out of The MAST Center could yield an additional 850 jobs, focused on private sector businesses.  At full build out, The MAST Center is programmed to have 420,000 square feet of space and two supporting hotels.  Employment in the district has potential to be in the range of 1,200 to 1,500 jobs..
