MODSIM 2007 Spotlight

Hampton Roads is one of the top three areas in the country for modeling and simulation; however, without having a conference to attract individuals and businesses from outside of the region, it is often under appreciated.  In order to change that, academics, industry members, and local and regional economic developers led by the Hampton Roads Technology Council and VMASC began collaborating to create an annual modeling and simulation conference to be held in Hampton Roads.  The result is MODSIM World, a conference to be held annually in Hampton Roads.

MODSIM World is a premier international conference and exposition for collaboration and transfer of modeling & simulation knowledge, new research, development and applied technology across all public and private sectors to support and enhance leadership and management decision-making.  MODSIM World 2007 will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA September 11-13, 2007.

While much of attention towards modeling and simulation stems for the military and Department of Defense, there are many other applications for the technology.  MODSIM World hopes to draw attention to those applications and offer the opportunity to transfer technology from the DoD to these other areas.  To that end, MODSIM World 2007 will have five tracks.  The four core tracks will be education/training, homeland security/defense, medical, transportation.  The fifth cross-cutting track will address gaming and interoperability.

To distinguish itself from other conferences, MODSIM is focused on the enhancing the decision making process within each of its tracks and while including a homeland security/defense track is minimizing its focus on the military.  MODSIM hopes to draw attention to the potential for modeling and simulation to help in industries that to date have not expressed much interest.
