WAVY to Spotlight Regional History in 12 Segment Series Highlighting Hampton Roads as America’s First Region
The Hampton Roads Partnership is proud to be cooperating with WAVY TV in the production of a series of 12 news stories highlighting regional history to air nightly during the station’s 5:30 pm newscast (6pm on weekends) from April 30 - May 13.
WAVY TV, fresh off the heels of winning a Virginia AP Broadcasters Award for Best Feature for its “My Hampton Roads” series, has titled the project “America’s First Region”. Each installment features an individual or group who is helping to preserve the rich history of Hampton Roads in their individual city, county or town. Rubin Communications Group, working on behalf of the Partnership, helped the station identify subjects for the pieces.
The first feature on April 30 was about Henry Towne, what is believed to have been an early trading town at Cape Henry in Virginia Beach, near the site of the Jamestown settlers’ first landing. A full listing of stories can be found below and can be accessed after their original airing through WAVY TV’s website, www.wavy.com.
This is a wonderful series promoting our region’s shared history in the very spirit of the America’s First Region campaign. We ask that you please watch and let others know about the series so they can tune in, too.
