In 2010, Rick served as Interim Director and is now Director of Innovate!HamptonRoads™ working to position Hampton Roads as a magnet for research and development investment; facilitate university/government lab/industry teaming; be a catalyst for new business formation, incubation and acceleration; champion and coordinate private/public investments; grow industry cluster contributions to the Gross Regional Product; and create jobs. Rick has over 25 years of technology industry experience. His accomplishments include new business startup, product development, manufacturing, strategic technology development and executive management. Along with his management team, he established Oceana Sensor in 1995 focusing on developing wireless, smart sensor solutions for industrial and military applications. Rick has more than 20 years experience managing U.S. Federal contracts including “Other Transactions Agreements.” This experience has included both business and technical management along with multiple concurrent projects and multiple subcontractor performance. He has authored papers, presented tutorials and spoken internationally about his specialties and holds several patents related to sensors and sensing applications. In 2004, Rick was elected the Chair of the Hampton Roads Technology Council, a regional association committed to unifying Hampton Roads under one technology-based economy. During his 4-year term, Rick gained extensive experience in association management and technology-based economic development. In 2007 and 2008, he also served as Chair of the Virginia Technology Alliance whose members are the 10 regional technology councils of Virginia. Rick serves on the Board of Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium on behalf of the Tech Council providing a vital connection between industry and academia research. He is also active in the Hampton Roads STEM alliance transforming the 21st century grades K-12 educational experience. Rick is on the advisory boards of Virginia FIRST and Future City STEM organizations. Rick has an Executive MBA, University of Rochester 1993; MSME, University of Cincinnati 1992; and BSME, Clarkson, 1985.  |
